Description

Light Green Velvet Underglaze is a light spring green color that is bright at cone 05, darkens significantly to a forest green at cone 5, and becomes a deep pine green at cone 10. A clear glaze accentuates the color of the underglaze at any temperature.

Amaco Lead-Free Velvet Underglazes can be used with or without glaze. When left unglazed, they will assume the rich textural appearance of velvet. When glazed with transparent matte glaze, they take on a soft, satin finish. Colors will intensify when covered with a clear transparent gloss glaze but will lose their matte surface quality.

The underglazes fire true to color from the pot and can be easily applied to wet clay, greenware, or mature Cone 04 bisque . To shade, tint, or customize the color of these underglazes, simply mix them with other colors. Velvets have a wide firing range 1040°C - 1220°C. Some of these underglazes have also been successfully fired to 1305°C (Cone 10).

Working Notes

Try two finish possibilities: When left unglazed these colors have the rich textural appearance of velvet; when covered with transparent glaze they intensify in color.

When firing to earthenware temperatures (1060°C -1160°C) we recomend using either our brush on Transparent Glaze, or for dipping applications our Transparent Powder.

When firing to stoneware temperatures (1250°C - 1280°C) we recomend using either our brush on Transparent Glaze, or for dipping applications our Transparent Powder.

Can be easily applied to wet clay, greenware, or bisqueware.

Health & Safety

Dinnerware Safe under a suitable glaze.

Tableware producers must test all finished ware to establish dinnerware status, due to possible variations in firing temperature and contamination.

Customer Reviews

"After trying most makes of underglaze colours including making my own I find Amaco Velvet Underglaze colours the best. I apply them like paint to my leather hard pots either as they are or watered down as a ‘wash’. When bisque fired they don’t rub off like some other makes. This allows you to apply and remove oxide washes without loosing the underglaze. My final firing to 1080 degrees provides a lovely ‘velvet’ finish to unglazed parts of my pots and an enhanced bright shiny colour where glazed."
