Basalt Rust By The Sea Reactive Glaze

Basalt Rust is a rich, dramatic Milton Bridge Studio Line 'By the Sea' reactive stoneware glaze, designed to create dark coastal colour, glossy depth and naturally varied fired effects. This reactive stoneware glaze develops deep basalt brown and warm rust-like tones in the kiln, giving pottery pieces a bold, weathered finish with plenty of character.

With its darker volcanic feel, Basalt Rust is a strong choice for potters wanting a more dramatic glaze within the By the Sea range. It works beautifully on mugs, bowls, vases, planters, sculptural ceramics and textured stoneware, particularly where the reactive finish can break and pool around surface detail.

• Colour & finish: Deep basalt brown with warm rust tones and glossy reactive variation
• Firing range: Cone 4–9, approx. 1180–1280 °C
• Best for: Statement stoneware, sculptural pottery, mugs, bowls, vases, planters and textured ceramics
• Application: Stir well, then apply 2–3 even coats by brush, sponge or stamp, allowing each coat to dry

Reactive glazes can move and vary depending on glaze thickness, firing temperature and clay body. For best results, test first and avoid heavy application near the foot of the piece, especially on vertical forms where movement may be more pronounced.
