Terracotta Amaco Velvet Underglaze V303
Description
Terra Cotta Velvet Underglaze is a warm cinnamon brown that is much darker with a clear glaze on top at any temperature. At cone 05, it is red-brown and reminiscent of the clay it is named after. It darkens at cone 5 and becomes a deep chocolate color at cone 10.
Amaco Lead-Free Velvet Underglazes can be used with or without glaze. When left unglazed, they will assume the rich textural appearance of velvet. When glazed with transparent matte glaze, they take on a soft, satin finish. Colors will intensify when covered with a clear transparent gloss glaze but will lose their matte surface quality.
The underglazes fire true to color from the pot and can be easily applied to wet clay, greenware, or mature Cone 04 bisque . To shade, tint, or customize the color of these underglazes, simply mix them with other colors. Velvets have a wide firing range 1040°C - 1220°C. Some of these underglazes have also been successfully fired to 1305°C (Cone 10).
Working Notes
Try two finish possibilities: When left unglazed these colors have the rich textural appearance of velvet; when covered with transparent glaze they intensify in color.
