Description
Our leadfree earthenware brush on glazes can be applied to bisque ware but will also work well when applied to dry clay (greenware) and once fired. This can be very useful in schools and studios, and for those wanting to find more environmentally friendly studio working methods. Suitable for dinnerware.
To apply - stir the glaze thoroughly and apply the first coat onto clean, dust-free biscuit ware, or greenware. Use a soft brush. The second coat can be applied when the first coat is dry. A third coat may be necessary, depending on your own application thickness. The thicker glaze coat (3 layers) will be more opaque whereas the thinner, single coat will tend to be more transparent. Choice of clay body, thickness of glaze, firing process and temperature will affect the fired results.

Working Notes
- Our earthenware brush on glazes can be used in raw firings, where the glaze is applied directly to leather hard greenware. We recomend testing this technique first.
- If you are glazing flat ware like a tile or large plate, soft wide brushes are favourable, such as Hake Brushes
- Rounder fuller mop brushes are useful within the insides of a pot or bowls, they hold a lot of glaze.
- Try experimenting with the addition of stains, to customise our brush on glazes
- Not suitable for glazing directly on to red terracotta clay as it may go slightly milky. Works best on top of coloured decorating slips or white clay.
- NOTE: If a glaze has dried up, just add some water and stir thoroughly.
Health & Safety
When handled safely, our earthenware brush-on liquid glaze poses no risks, however, avoid ingestion and contact with skin or eyes, and follow good studio practices.
A dried brush-on glaze presents a hazard, so should this occur, it's essential to clean using a wet sponge and where a mask when any dust is present.
