Gold Spectrum Glaze
Description
Spectrum’s 1112 Metallic Gold cone 4/6 (1180°C-1240°C) stoneware glaze. The final appearance of the glaze is dependent on firing temperature, glaze thickness and the composition of the clay body being used.
This is a brush on glaze ready to be applied to bisque fired ware. They are all lead free, non-toxic. They are formulated to produce reactions during the firing cycle which give very interesting and beautiful effects. The final appearance of the glaze is dependent on firing temperature, glaze thickness and the composition of the clay body being used. The sample shown has 3 coats of glaze brushed on a white clay and is fired to cone 5 in an electric kiln.
Working Notes
For best results fire 1200°C with a 30 minute soak on a computerised controller. Although this glaze can be fired to Cone 6, we would recommend firing it to a maximum of Cone 5 to ensure that the glaze comes out metallic and shiny.
Try overlapping glazes for new and interesting glaze results. Some of Spectrum Glazes are designed to move and shift in the glaze firing resulting in beautifully bright and layered looks.
Health & Safety
Manufacturers Recommendations: Not Suitable for Dinnerware due to Surface Durability indicates the fired glaze surface may not be desirable to use a particular glaze for dinnerware even though it has passed the food safe testing process. Much of this is due to the fired glaze surface being impacted by contact with acidic food or liquids. Please note, dinnerware safety is not defined by cutlery scratches.
