Dusky Reef By The Sea Reactive Glaze
Description
Dusky Reef is a soft, earthy Milton Bridge Studio Line 'By the Sea' reactive stoneware glaze, designed to create warm coastal colour, glossy movement and naturally varied fired results. This reactive stoneware glaze develops muted coral, sand and reef-like tones in the kiln, giving pottery pieces a calm, weathered shoreline finish.
With its gentle, natural colouring, Dusky Reef is ideal for potters wanting a softer coastal glaze with an organic feel. It works beautifully on mugs, bowls, vases, planters and textured stoneware, especially where carved or uneven surfaces allow the reactive finish to show extra depth and variation.
- Colour & finish: Warm dusky coral-beige tones with glossy reactive variation
- Firing range: Cone 2–6, approx. 1160–1240 °C
- Best for: Coastal pottery, decorative stoneware, mugs, bowls, vases, planters and textured ceramics
- Application: Stir well, then apply 2–3 even coats by brush, sponge or stamp, allowing each coat to dry
- Food safety: Food safe when fired to the manufacturer’s recommended temperature
- Size: 550 ml
Please note that Dusky Reef has a lower firing range than most colours in the By the Sea collection. As with all reactive glazes, results may vary depending on glaze thickness, clay body and kiln conditions, so we recommend testing first and avoiding heavy application near the foot of the piece.
Working Notes
For best results, apply evenly to bisque-fired ware and allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next. Reactive glazes can behave differently depending on the surface texture, application thickness and kiln conditions, so testing is strongly recommended before using on larger batches or customer pieces.
Note: Reactive glaze results will vary from piece to piece. Colour movement, breaking, pooling and surface variation are part of the character of this glaze range. Always test first.
