Spectrum Ash glazes for cone 6 electric kilns:
Ash glazing dates to 1500 BC. The process of using wood ash to glaze pottery created a multi-tonal effect. Ashes from various fruit trees would create beautiful colors. Spectrum 1420 Series cone 4-6 glazes replicates the look of these glazes. The colors are translucent, which allows them to be used together for a unique appearance on every piece.
We recommend trying different techniques with your Spectrum Ash Glazes until you discover the one that works best for you. One thin coat may give you the look you desire, though multiple coats offer an entirely different look. These cone 4-6 glazes also work well when combined with other glazes.
Ash glazes are oxide based. They can be used with cone 03-05 bisque ware. They mature at cone 4-6.
