Metallic colours for application to fired glazed surfaces. Application of LUSTRES is possibly the most important factor in achieving the best results. The more richly coloured LUSTRES require a fairly thin coat while other LUSTRES (particularly the metallic LUSTRES) require an even thinner coat. If LUSTRES are applied to thickly they may give rise to problems I.e. dull finish, flaking off etc. LUSTRES are best fired in a kiln which is well ventilated until al the lustre gases have been burnt away (approx. 400oC) otherwise the final finish may be affected.
