Information

This book is a useful guide to setting up a pottery workshop. It looks at fundamental issues of types of premises, equipment, materials and finance as well as giving useful advice on practical considerations such as making simple tools and ideas for marketing. To illustrate these points, the author discusses how various potters have tackled the issues raised and gives examples of a wide range of workshops around the world.

Setting up a pottery workshop is a must not only for those setting up a workshop for the first time, but also for the established potter who could use help in one of the areas covered by the book.

Alistair Young studied ceramics at Bath Academy of Art before establishing his first studio in Gloucestershire in 1978. He developed the studio ceramics course at the Royal Forest of Dean College and has worked on projects with industry. He is a practising potter, producing salt glazed stoneware ranging from large decorative wall plates to smaller functional items. His pots are exhibited widely and have been included in a number of publications.
