Lucie Ries beautiful stoneware and porcelain is familiar to potters and collectors world-wide. Born in Vienna in 1902 her experience goes back to the Vienna Secession. This biography of the artist describes the unusual background to her life at the beginning of the century, her move to London and her friendship with Bernard Leach before during and after the Second World War, and her long association with Hans Coper until his death in 1981. There is a technical chapter of value to potters who would like to understand her working methods. This first paperback, with 18 new photographs, has been revised to include the retrospective exhibitions since Dame Lucies incapacitating illness of 1990.
