Information

Robert Fournier has been a professional potter for over forty years. This dictionary grew out of an alphabetized notebook which he started and maintained for his own quick reference.

The new edition of this book notes changes in modern techniques, types of glazes and methods of firing. New materials, such as ceramic fiber, are covered. Warnings are given for lead compounds and asbestos based materials, and alternatives provided. In addition, health and hygiene feature among the many new entries.

The work is exhaustive in scope and detail. There are over 1200 entries together with 500 illustrations (120 newly photographed for this edition), which include some three dozen step-by-step series of practical instruction on techniques and processes. Other useful data is given in the form of definitions, descriptions, formulae, recipes, analysis, charts, terms used in ceramics, materials and equipment - information that is vital to all potters.
