Information

Bright Gold Glazing Lustre

Metallic colours for application to fired glazed surfaces. Application of lustres is possibly the most important factor in achieving the best results.

The more richly coloured lustres require a fairly thin coat while other lustres (particularly the metallic lustres) require an even thinner coat.

If lustres are applied too thickly they may give rise to problems i.e. dull finishes, flaking off etc. Lustres are best fired in a pottery kiln which is well ventilated until all the lustre gases have been burnt away otherwise the final finish may be affected.

Fire to 720degC - 790degC

Troubleshooting

If you want a brighter fired gold, you might try applying it over yellow instead of clear glaze.

Cloudy or dull lustres or metallics may be caused by insufficient ventilation or firing to an excessive temperature.

Before applying gold or any metallics, clean area with alcohol. All areas should be dry before painting with bright gold or other overglazes
